The campus is one of
the best in India. It is an amazing peaceful place. Lovely weather.
It rains quite often here, one thing you will start loving from beginning. If you are lucky you might get to
witness a hailstorm. Everyone at IIT G get's a single seater room. There are ten
boys hostel and 2 girls hostel. Hostels will be allotted randomly to fresher’s,
which can be changed from 2
nd year if you want. All the hostels have
washing machines. Water coolers are on every floor in a hostel. Some hostels
have Balcony and those which don’t have one is compensated by more space inside
the room (The newer hostels don’t have a Balcony). There is a small Library and
a TV room in each hostel. The TV room gets crowded during the cricket and
football World cups. There is a stationery shop in each hostel with the facility for printouts and photocopying, where you can find everything you need to buy. And then you have the Khokha market where you can find the rest of the stuff, its a common hangout place in the evening. There is a Central Library and Computer Center. There are
seven lakes in the campus. And
Brahmaputra is just couple of hundred meters far from the campus.
The Misconception- I have heard people saying that there is a lot of armed activities going in Guwahati, the city is flooded with Brahmaputra and some other more stories. Please don't presume these things. There is no armed activity going even near the city, the campus is quite secured too. There is no flooding in the campus and the city.
There is no ragging
here. Professors are quite strict about this.
There is mostly all type of sporting facility available.
There are 10 Badminton courts (5 Wooden+5 Synthetic), 4 Tennis courts, 2
Basketball courts, 2 Volleyball courts, squash court, hockey ground, football ground, Cricket
ground, Swimming pool, multiple Table Tennis (Even hostels have Table tennis)
and Gym.
The city can be reached by Campus bus which runs between the city and the campus almost hourly
every day. The last bus from city is around 8:45 pm (Tip: Don’t ever miss that
last bus :p ). We are not charged for the ride.
Mess food is fine, breakfast is the best. Every hostel has
Canteen and Juice Center which is open from 8 AM to 3 AM. Juice center closes at 12 midnight.
There is a cultural fest Alcheringa, it had a foot-fall of around 70,000 in 2015. It happens
in the last week of January and these are the three days you wouldn't want to sleep.
The technical fest
Techniche is very famous. You must have surely given
Technothlon in your school days. You can learn a lot during this fest. It is conducted in first week of September. It has many fun filled competitions like Robo-war. And finally there are the nites(You will know about that once you get here).
And then there are inter-hostel events- Kriti-Technical, Manthan-Cultural, Spardha-Sports.
I have another blog describing some of the wonderful days I spent here http://itsawesomehere.blogspot.in
